Making Menifee Curbsides More Colorful

We're celebrating local talent by turning everyday utility boxes into stunning art that showcases what makes our city special. Join the excitement as Menifee streets become a gallery celebrating our artists, our history and our community pride!

Menifee ArtBox Program

The Menifee’s ArtBox Program seeks to showcase local artists by transforming City-owned utility boxes into public works of art. The goals of the program are to build community, highlight the talent of Menifee’s artists, and enrich the city through displays of art that reflect Menifee’s history, unique identity, and sense of place.

We’re turning ordinary utility boxes into vibrant public art, and we want local creativity to shine across Menifee’s streets. Whether you’re a seasoned muralist or an inspired emerging artist, this is a chance to help beautify the city and share your vision with the community.

Don’t wait. Apply and submit your design by August 1st!

What makes Menifee Your Home?

Artists will create designs that celebrate Menifee's welcoming spirit through its landscapes, family moments, landmarks, and cultural heritage. Use these recommended criteria when creating your art:

  • Menifee’s history. Learn more at https://menifeehistory.com/

  • Sunny hillsides and natural beauty

  • Neighborhood gatherings and community events

  • Family-friendly culture

How the ArtBox Program Works
  1. Artists submit an ArtBox submission form, signed waiver, and a picture of the artwork in the template provided.

  2. Art submissions are reviewed by the Arts Council Menifee ArtBox Selection Committee based on theme relevance and artistic design.

  3. ARC announces winners online

  4. ARC works with the City of Menifee  to digitize the selected artwork, convert it to a vinyl wrap and install it on the selected utility boxes.

  5. Information about the artist, artists and map of locations will be found online.

  6. The City of Menifee is responsible for maintenance of the boxes for duration of the program.

Artist Eligibility

The program is open to Menifee residents who are:

  • Professional artists.

  • Amateur artists 16 years or older.

  • High school art, digital art, graphic arts, and photography teachers and their students ages 16 and above.

To be considered, artists or artist groups must complete and submit the application form with basic information and a sketch of the proposed artwork or final artwork. The design should cover all visible sides of the utility box. Artists will also provide a brief statement about their interest in participating. All artists must certify that they are the original creators of the artwork, sign a waiver, and execute a license agreement allowing the Arts Council to use the artwork for installation and promotional purposes. NO AI-generated images will be accepted. The original artwork and all rights remain with the artists.

Artists whose artwork is selected will be notified and may be asked to complete a W-9 form in order to receive any stipend payment offered through the program.

Artwork Guidelines

Artwork Do’s and Don’ts

We're inviting artists to create mini murals that capture the heart of Menifee: our sunny landscapes, family gatherings, local landmarks, and our rich history that makes our community great.

What does Menifee mean to you? Maybe it's weekend picnics at the lake, neighborhood block parties, or the stunning hills at sunset. Share your story through art that celebrates our vibrant culture, welcoming spirit, and shared history!

DO:

  • Provide family-friendly artwork suitable for viewing by all ages.

  • Use bright colors and images that are visible from a distance.

  • Consider incorporating Menifee’s history, landmarks, open spaces, community life, and local identity.

  • Create art that builds community, improves quality of life, and highlights Menifee’s unique character.

  • Use images of nature, inspiration, culture, and beauty.

  • Be original, creative, and have fun. Artwork may be created in paint, pastels, digital media, photography, or any format that can be digitized and printed as a vinyl wrap.

DON’T:

  • Use AI-generated images or complete image.

  • Use political or religious words or imagery.

  • Use profanity or violent imagery.

  • Advertise a business or social media accounts logo or imagery.

  • Use copyrighted or trademarked images.

  • Defame or invade the rights of any person or group, living or dead.

  • Leave sides or surfaces blank. Use the full canvas.

Use of any of these will be an immediate disqualification.

Artwork will be digitized and used to create vinyl wraps applied to City-owned utility boxes. Artists should follow the provided dimensions in the submission template. The vinyl wrap will be installed by a professional contractor and may include a protective UV coating to reduce sun damage and allow for easy removal of graffiti. The artwork may not block vents, airflow, or access to the box’s components. If needed, layout edits may be required to ensure the utility box functions properly. The City must retain full access to the box and its equipment at all times.
