LIQUID GOLD
by Connie Nicholson

“Liquid Gold,” named for the early honey production that many families used for income. It is mixed media, including oil pastel, acrylic marker, pen, and colored pencil. Menifee beekeepers, from the 1890s to the early 1900s, relied heavily on the local wild flora that grew in the valley, including black sage, wild mustard, CA buckwheat, and wild alfalfa, which are depicted in this scene and are covered in honey bees. Some beekeeping families included the Wickerds, Harrisons, Roberts, McGrath, Walkers, and Zeiders. It should wrap around all sides of the utility box. This is only my second oil pastel piece.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
My name is Connie Nicholson. I have lived in Menifee for 9 years. I am a retired teacher who taught elementary through 8th grade for 31 years. As a teacher, I shared my love of art with my students by integrating art into the curriculum. It wasn't until I retired 2 years ago that I began doing art myself. I mostly work in watercolor, but I also enjoy oil pastels. I am still learning to work with acrylics. I would love to be a part of the beautification of Menifee and in bringing art into the lives of our residents.
