Why the Acorn?

You’ve seen them—acorns pressed right into the concrete along the 215. The Luiseno people lived right here on this land, thriving for generations on the acorns from our native oaks. That’s why the Acorn Quest is perfect for our city—a celebration of heritage, growth from small beginnings to the mighty city we are today. That’s Menifee in a nutshell! Pun intended :)

Grandmother Oak.png

Menifee is home to the "Grandmother Oak," as it is known by our Native American friends. The stately tree is located on the Wickerd Farm on Scott Road.
It is a Coast Live Oak (Quercus agrifolia), one of the largest trees of its species, and thought to be over 500 years old.

Standing adjacent to its main trunk, viewers are in awe of the vast canopy of shade it provides. It evokes a feeling of pride and respect when we consider that the Native Americans who originally inhabited this area found a staple food supply from the acorns of local oak trees like this one.

We are fortunate to have this historic natural wonder still growing strong in Menifee.
